Delma Black Obituary

Delma Tart Black, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away on February 16, 2026. She was born March 23, 1938, in Bunnlevel to the late Barney Tart and Emma Scott Tart.

Affectionately known as “Dale,” Delma was a devoted mother and woman of strong faith whose life reflected her deep love for the Lord, her family, and her home. She found joy in gardening, cooking for those she loved, reading her Bible, attending church, collecting teddy bears, caring for her dogs, and spending time with family. Her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome.

Delma’s fondness for the color pink reflected her gentle and nurturing spirit. Christmas gatherings were especially meaningful to her, as they brought family together in love and fellowship. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend whose life was guided by faith, devotion, and the love she poured into others. Her legacy of prayer, kindness, and steadfast love will live on in all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Stanley Podobinski; her daughters, Barbara Ann Podobinski, Gail Black, and Gay Black; her brothers, Billy Ray Tart, Bruce Tart, and Brooks Tart; and her sisters, Marion Bowden, Deliah Edwards, Ruth Knowlton, and Ruby Stewart.

Delma is survived by her former husband, Leon (Jr.) Black; her children, Elaine Cunningham of Fayetteville, Rickey Podobinski of Fayetteville, Michael Podobinski (Karen) of White Lake, Randy Podobinski (Laura) of Hope Mills, Darryl Black (Lou Anne) of Raleigh, Craig Black (Diane) of Raleigh, and Gary Black (Elizabeth) of Fayetteville.

She is also survived by her sister, Myrtle (J.B.) Collins of Roanoke Rapids; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; family friend Frankie Atkinson Beeler; and many other relatives and friends who will deeply miss her. The family extends special gratitude to Elaine Cunningham for her loving care and support over the past several years.
