David Fowler Obituary

David George Fowler, 74, of Fayetteville, passed away on September 4, 2024. David was born on November 18, 1949, in Fayetteville to the late Wade Russell Fowler and Augustine Tuliakoff Fowler. He was a member of the last graduating class (1968) of Fayetteville High School and spent one year at East Carolina University before transferring to North Carolina State University. He graduated in 1973 with a B.A. in History and spent most of his life as a “lone wolf” among his Tarheel brothers and sister.

His 40-year career in banking and mortgage lending began at Curtis E. Martin, Inc., followed by The Rouse Company, UCB, Centura Bank, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, New South Federal, and Acopia. As a licensed general contractor, he formed a residential and commercial building company called Allicorp, affectionately named after his daughter whose fondest memories include riding in his truck to job sites around town.

The culmination of his talents, expertise, and passion rested in his current position as Construction Site Supervisor at Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity. From his perspective, no one deserved to be overlooked and he often talked about the importance of giving to others, especially to those who could never give you anything in return. He lived this out loud as he led a team at Habitat who constructed, repaired, and restored people’s most basic need – their homes. He also gave of himself quietly, including using his network to raise funds to purchase meals from struggling local businesses to benefit healthcare workers during COVID and galvanizing resources to go above and beyond what Habitat could do for the families they serve.

His two primary sources of joy were cooking/baking and his family. He was always eager to make cheesecakes for anyone who needed or wanted one, birthday cakes for his grandchildren, and wedding cakes – his favorite being Allison and Robert’s in 2014. He loved cooking for the people he loved: creating a fine dining experience before prom for Allison and her friends and hosting dinner parties that were second to none. He cherished his standing Friday morning breakfast “meetings” with his closest friends. However, nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family. He placed Dayle and Allison over anyone and anything, until he had grandchildren and they became his entire world.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Wade Russell Fowler and Augustine Tuliakoff Fowler, and beloved brother-in-law, George “Tom” Lewis. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dayle Fowler; one daughter, Allison Guenther (Robert); three grandchildren, Georgia, Olivia, and Caldwell “Wells”; sister, Natalie Lewis; brothers, Nick (Kathy), Mike (Valen), and Wade (Kim); and a host of nieces and nephews.

David’s funeral will be held at Haymount United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 3:00pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00pm in the Commons Room of the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to continue helping the people he cared so deeply for at Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity at 733 Bargain Street, Fayetteville, NC 28303 or online at www.fayettevillenchabitat.org.
