Dana Holliday Ward passed away peacefully in her home on May 20, 2021, at the age of 90 following a courageous battle with dementia. Dana, affectionately called “Gigi” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Dana was born on February 3, 1931, in Hampton, VA to Evelyn and H.J. “Jack” Holliday. After she and the love of her life B.F. “Buzz” Ward married, they lived in Nashville, TN, Roanoke, VA, and Kinston, NC before moving to Fayetteville, NC in 1964. A wonderful cook and hostess, Dana enjoyed entertaining her loved ones in her home for 57 years. As a four-time breast cancer survivor, she faced life’s challenges with a smile and made a point to spend her time doing the things she loved: gardening and working in her yard, golfing, reading, and spending time with her family. Dana was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Flora Macdonald Garden Club, and several book clubs throughout the years.
She is preceded in death by her husband B.F “Buzz” Ward.
She is survived by two daughters, Larkin Ward Pfeffer (Husband John) of Fayetteville, NC; Robin Ward Disponizo (Husband Charles) of Hampstead, NC. One sister, Lynn Butler of Charlotte, NC. Three grandchildren, Jake Pfeffer, Grayson Pfeffer, and Mitchell Disponzio. Three great-granddaughters, Madison Pfeffer, Alexis Pfeffer, and Ava Disponzio.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Liberty Hospice and Home Instead for their kindness as well as Dana’s caregiver Jean for going above and beyond to extend her quality of life.
Dana “GiGi” Ward will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 11:30am at First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends in the historical room at 11:00am before the service.
Family requests memorials be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, 102 Ann St, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
