Constance Marie Ellis Martin Obituary

Constance Marie Ellis Martin passed away on March 1, 2021 at Carolina Inn. She was born in Indianapolis, IN, on August 29, 1926, to the late Lawrence Nicholas Ellis and Mildred Hurst Ellis. She was the stepdaughter of the late Douglas Gilmore Stoner, Jr. and Ethel Feather Ellis.

Constance graduated from Fayetteville High School and attended Indiana University and the University of Miami. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and a former choir member. Constance worked for the Cumberland County Tax Supervisor’s Office until retirement in 1987. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Britt Martin; her son, Dr. Edwin “Eddie” B. Martin, Jr.; and her brother, Lawrence “Lockie” Hurst Ellis of McComb, MS.

Constance is survived by three grandchildren: Dr. Edwin B. Martin, III, wife Beth, and their daughter, Sailor Dare of Wrightsville Beach, NC; John Curtis Martin and wife Alexandra of Hendersonville, NC; and Mary Tiffany Martin of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dixie Livingston Martin of Belmont, NC, and Joanne Holmes Martin of Laurinburg, NC. Several loving and caring nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.

A graveside service will be held at LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. NC on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 12 PM. The family requests masks be worn, and social distancing observed at this service.
