Clyde Boone Obituary

Clyde Randall Boone, 83, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 28, 2025.

Randy is survived by his wife, Lana S. Boone; sister, Lynn Breeden; four grandchildren: Tyler Smolinsky, Chance Boone, Haylee Boone Pelchat; Richard Boone, Jr. and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Rhumel Everett and Clyde Wilson Boone; brother, Richard Kyle Boone; son, Richard Everett Boone; and grandson James Lee Boone.

Randy was a 1960 graduate of Fayetteville Senior High, and attended NC State, majoring in math.  He left after his freshman year, hitchhiking with his guitar across the country and eventually to Hollywood. There he was discovered by director Peter Tewksbury and began a successful acting career, starring in “It’s a Man’s World”, “The Virginian”, and “Cimarron Strip”, with guest appearances in many other TV shows including “Rat Patrol”, “The Twilight Zone”, “Bonanza”, “Wagon Train”, and “Hondo”. He was awarded the Bronze Wrangler award from the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in 1966 for the episode entitled “The Horse Fighter”.  He was also inducted into the Fayetteville Music Hall of Fame.

A self-taught and accomplished musician, Randy was a prolific song writer, and played banjo, ukelele, and guitar. He continued to perform long after leaving Hollywood, appearing in Nashville, country music festivals and cowboy reunions. He was often referred to as “the last singing cowboy”. He loved entertaining and sharing his music and songs with his family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
