Cecil Leroy Woods

Cecil Leroy Woods, 80, passed away on February 23, 2020 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Wolverine, Michigan on July 1, 1939.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Albert Woods and Lottie A. Anscomb- Woods; his two brothers, George A. Woods and Aubrey W. Woods, and his sister, Phyllis E. Porterfield.

Cecil is survived by his spouse, Joyce A. Moore-Woods, his daughter, Tamera L. Woods-Miller; his two sons, Michael W. Woods and Randall S. Woods, Sr.; three brothers, Marvin D. Woods, Elmer A. Woods, and Roy E. Woods; his sister, Virginia A. Weaver; three grandsons, Randall S. Woods, Jr., Joshua M. Woods, and Todd D. Miller; five granddaughters, Aubryonna Woods-Remington, Kelsey L. Woods, Amanda R. Miller-Weaver, Sydney P. Penmen, and April M. Miller; five great grandsons, Robert B. Remington, Jr., Blake B. Remington, Caleb M. Remington, Vergil L. Weaver and Holden E.T. Riley.

Sergeant First Class Cecil L. Woods joined the US Army in 1958. He proudly served his country for 20 years before retiring. In 1959 he married Joyce Moore-Woods; they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 17. While in the military, Cecil was a volunteer firefighter for the Lafayette Village Fire Department and after retiring from the Army he became a paid member of the fire department while also owning his own tree-cutting service.

Cecil was a long-time member of the Village Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and a member of the church choir. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2020 in Rogers and Breece Chapel with Rev. Archie Barringer and Dr. Larry Hogan officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 – 5:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at 10 am Friday, February 28, 2020 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
