Carol Ann Shank

Carol Ann Shank, 83, of Hope Mills, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday,
December 5th, 2024.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Josie and Dexter Bell and brothers, Frank,
Howard and Larry Bell. She is survived by her husband Stanley Shank and her sons,
Stan(Cathy), Ron(Sonda) and Thomas(Tonya), her sister Linda Raynor and brother-in-law Wayne Raynor.
Her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer, Eric(Stephanie), Sloane(Josh),
Sydney, Tucker, Bruce(Chloe),Hayley(KJ); 4 great-grandchildren(Ethan, Asher, Mason
and Maggie) and many nieces and nephews(Rachel, Karyn and Brian) who cherish
memories of their sweet “Aunt Carol”.
Carol was born in Washington County, Tennessee. She started school in Jonesborough,
TN, when shortly thereafter, her military father’s reassignment took the family to
Yokohama, Japan. Here she created some of her fondest childhood memories. Another
reassignment took them to Bamberg, Germany and finally back to Jonesborough, TN to
complete high school. She graduated from college in 1962 at Baptist Hospital, Knoxville,
TN with a nursing degree. She was a dedicated and caring nurse for over 40 years.
During nursing school, she met the love of her life, Stan, which led to 62 years of
marriage. She stood steadfastly by Stan’s side through his 21 years of military service.
One of her greatest passions was serving the Lord through her church in various
capacities, but especially in children’s ministry. Carol was gifted with many talents which
brought her great joy. She loved gardening, quilting, crafts, singing and playing piano,
sewing, painting and drawing. She blessed many with her talents. Most importantly, she
spent her life instilling Christian values in her family and honoring the Lord with a
servant’s heart.
A Celebration of Life service for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December
10, 2024, at The Village Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Visitation will be 11am-12 noon
with service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to The Village Baptist
Church or the Alzheimer’s Association Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 5171 Glenwood
Ave., Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27612.
The family would like to thank Home Instead Care Service, especially Hassie Kelly,
Vanetta Gray and Sarah Donau. We would also like to thank Cape Fear Valley Hospice
care provided by Brittany Bell, Tina Barron and Dr. Katherine Kelly.
