Bonnie Ammons Obituary

Bonnie Ammons, 81, of Fayetteville, NC transitioned to her heavenly home on May 11, 2026.
She left an undeniable impact on everyone that she encountered. She is known by many to be
the definition of love not only by the way she talks, but by her walk.
Bonnie was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina on August 12, 1944. Bonnie graduated from
East Carolina Indian (ECI) school in Clinton, NC. Bonnie met the love of her life Kelly McPherson
Ammons outside of the gymnasium at ECI after basketball practice. They were soon to be
married in Dillion, SC on August 22, 1962. They moved to Fayetteville, NC to look for more
opportunities. When she first moved to Fayetteville, she worked at Capitol Manufacturing
making picture frames. It was at this job that she was introduced to many Native Americans
living in the area among other races that welcomed her with open arms. However, it was the
Native American friends that introduced her to her soon to be lifelong interests of Cape Fear
Baptist Church and the Cumberland County Association for Indian People (CCAIP). However,
before that she was able to attend beauty school to become a cosmetologist based on a
promise made by Kelly Mack Ammons that if she married him, he would make sure she
attended beauty school. Kelly would go on to work two jobs to make his promise a reality. After
working at salons for a few years Bonnie was never fulfilled in her work life. She was afforded
an opportunity to work at CCAIP that would change her life. She started a love affair with the
Native American senior citizens that would go on to last the next forty-two years of her life. She
developed lifelong bonds that continue to flourish with many people that are here today
through their great grandparents, grandparents, and parents. She made it her daily mission to
assist her senior citizens in every facet of their lives. Honestly, a book could be written about all
her accomplishments, adventures, and relationships with so many amazing people along with
their families. Her work at the CCAIP was complimented by her love for Cape Fear Baptist
church as they often went hand in hand. Even though she wasn’t born in this community she
was quickly regarded as an essential part of it. All of this was accomplished while raising four
children quietly being the backbone of her family. We believe she showed my dad how to love
openly, and he was a quick study as they turned that love into 54 years of marriage. For many
this was a miracle that could only be ordained by God due to their difficult upbringing. Neither
one had a traditional family setting, so they worked daily to ensure that they provided their
children with a Christian home with both parents in it. We are so happy to say as of May 11,
2026, that they are together again. Mom as well as dad, you both will always be on our mind
and most comfortably in our hearts.
