Betty Gwynn (Gunn) Dennis

Betty Gwynn Dennis, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024. She was born on July 29, 1938, in Providence, NC, to the late Edward Marvin Gunn and Mary Hicks Gunn.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howell A. Dennis, and her sister, Shirley Gunn Peaden. She is survived by her brother, George Edward Gunn, and his wife, Joyce; her nephew, Jamie B. Gunn; her nieces, Amy Gunn Bradshaw and Ashley Gunn Murphy; stepdaughters, Mary Dennis Barrett and Debbie Dennis Hannowell; special friends, Jerry Pope, Buntie Russ, and Pamolu Oldham; as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

Betty earned an undergraduate degree and a Master of Arts degree, both in English, from East Carolina University. She completed additional graduate work at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Betty had a long distinguished career teaching English at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Additionally, she was an adjunct instructor of American and British Literatures through Campbell University at the Ft. Bragg/Pope Campus. She was a long-time member of Haymount United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Haymount United Methodist Church from 1:45 to 2:45 pm. A funeral service will follow at 3 pm, officiated by Reverend Allan Bingham. Burial will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
