Benner “Ben” Jones, III. Obituary

Benner “Ben” Jones, III. passed away peacefully in Fayetteville, North Carolina on March 6th, 2024, at the age of 84.  Benner was preceded in death by his parents, Benner Jones II, adoptive mother, Margaret Slavens and son, Benner Jones IV (BJ).  Benner is survived by his wife, Marquita Jones; daughter, Meg Karram (David), step-children Wayne Terry (Terri), Eric Terry (Marsha), and Renae Dean (Calvin); grandchildren, Madison, Emilia, Sarah, Drew, Christy, Joshua, Emily, Lauren and Johnathan; followed by many great grandchildren.

Benner Jones III was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 16th, 1939.  He is better known as a “Double Heel,” where he completed both his undergraduate and Law degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  While in college, he served as President of Lambda Chi Fraternity among other social clubs.  Once he planted in Fayetteville he practiced Law for 57 years as a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, was a member of Haymount United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was actively involved in the Fayetteville community.  To name a few organizations of involvement, he served as President of the Fayetteville Social Cub and also very involved with the Kiwanis Club of Cape Fear.  He served on the board and in 2018 he received the Legion of Honor Award for 25 years of service.

Benner truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; traveling with his wife to Myrtle Beach and aboard, dinner and dancing events, spending time with grandchildren, spitting out a funny joke, and nonetheless enjoying a nice cold Pepsi (and only Pepsi).  Benner had an ability to mold to any group and light up any room.  From his involvement with the community, he developed life long professional and personal friendships.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 1 to 2:15pm. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville, North Carolina with Pastor Allen Bingham officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Fayetteville Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be sent to Kiwanis Club of Cape Fear.
