Barbara Maclyn “Mackie” Weeks Obituary

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 5:5

Barbara Maclyn “Mackie” McDaniel Weeks has passed.  She held on til 2025 with her family around her, but nevertheless has left us much too soon.  Born and raised in Fayetteville, NC, Mackie embraced a life of giving, strength, faith and love.  Her compassion, pure empathy and depth of belief were shining lights that drew everyone she ever met to her as a friend.  She was beloved as both a daughter, a wife, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, and a best friend.  As everyone who met her knows, Mackie lived life as it was meant to be lived: laughing, running, teaching, riding horses, traveling, dancing in the rain, playing in the surf and adoring every sunset!

She may be gone in body, but she will remain beside us in countless ways, loved and close.

Mackie was surrounded by and will be missed by a huge family.  Closest were her husband of almost 57 years, Mayon Weeks, Jr., and her four sons, oldest Justin, Jason and wife, Kerry Healy, Josh and wife, McRae Davis, and youngest Jeff and partner, Ming Hwa Lee.  She will be sorely missed by her grandchildren, Emmeline Weeks, Syau Mei Lee Thach, Jasper Weeks, and Sierra Mei Weeks.  Mackie is also survived by her sisters, Marty Brownlow and husband, John, Jan Schnurr and husband, Paul and sister-in-law, Julie Weeks-Rufenacht  and husband, Brady and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. There are few people that knew Mackie that weren’t made to feel like, “Family.”

Mackie was a beloved and active member of the Fayetteville High School Class of 1965 to her death.  She was a competitive shag dancer and instructor, founder and Hall of Fame member of the Fayetteville Area Shag Association (FASA). She was not only a great lover of animals and pet owner supreme, but also a licensed Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitator (with many wild stories!) Mackie passionately rode, trained and competed with horses throughout life, and was an International Medalist in Kentucky.  Professionally, besides the busy role of wife and mother, Mackie was a top-selling Real Estate agent and Interior Designer.  She led an incredibly full life and will be sorely missed by her friends and family.

Mackie was a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, NC as were her dear parents, Ruth Shillinglaw of York, SC and Robert Munroe McDaniel of Union, SC.  Her deep faith was a constant source of strength even as her body kept her closer and closer to home.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church at 102 Ann St. 28301, kindly directed by the Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.
