Arvella Marie (Hunter) Cliff

Arvella Marie Cliff, age 71, passed away on March 16th, 2023.

Arvella was preceded in death by her parents, William, and Valasta Hunter of East Wenatchee, Washington. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Gordon Watanabe; son, Benjamin Watanabe; daughter, Elizabeth Watanabe; siblings, Bill Hunter and Valerie Marconi; niece, Brandie Marconi; and her brother in law, Angelo Marconi.

Arvella was a proud 20 year Army Veteran, retiring with the rank of SFC. She was one of the last Women’s Army Corps (WAC) recruits and served as one of the first female Army drill sergeants.

Arvella graduated from Fayetteville State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, furthering her career with Jackson Hewitt Tax Services. She loved bowling and sightseeing. Arvella was working on her bucket list when she passed away.

Visitation will be held from 11:15 to 12:15 PM at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 28th, 2023, with a memorial service following at 12:30 PM. Burial to follow the service at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
