Arthur Kamaka Obituary

Arthur Kahuwaolani “Pineapple, Joe.” Kamaka, 77, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

Arthur was born June 11, 1947, to Geneva Iokepa and Wadsworth Kamaka in Hilo, Hawaii. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and Airborne, serving three and a half years in Vietnam and earning many awards and decorations while serving. He then settled in Fayetteville, NC, with his wife, Evelyn Groves Kamaka.

Arthur enjoyed driving for Trailways, Greyhound, and Carolina American Tours. He could give directions to any location in the Continental United States and enjoyed driving different groups. He also enjoyed singing Tiny Bubbles on the PA system with a passenger holding the mic.

Arthur also enjoyed playing the ukelele and sing different songs and speaking native Hawaiian from time to time. He also enjoyed watching westerns and old movies especially Gunsmoke and The Rifleman. He was also into martial arts and watching Mike and Joseph excel in different styles of Kung Fu and Karate and watching old martial arts films.  He would say some off-the-wall things that would make you laugh and some expressions that were comedic at times.

Arthur Kamaka is preceded in death by his parents, Sonny and Dorthy Iokepa; brothers, Clifford Kamaka and Wadsworth “Stanley” Kamaka; and his sister, Faith “Momie” Cox, and Pam A’hee.

Arthur leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Groves Kamaka; three sons: David Kamaka and his wife, Melinda of Saint Pauls N.C., Micheal Kamaka of Fayetteville NC, and Joseph Kamaka of Hope Mills NC; two grandsons, Austin Kamaka and wife, Morgan, and Caleb Kamaka; one granddaughter, Bessie Locklear-Kamaka, and one great-grandson, Ford Gage Kamaka.
