Ann Scott Thompson died recently at Transitions Hospice in Wake County NC. Ann, the daughter of Mel and Helen Thompson, was born and raised in Fayetteville, NC. She attended Fayetteville Senior High School, graduating second in her class. She then attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC, before transferring to her beloved University of North Carolina. Upon graduating from UNC cum laude, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She completed a masters’ degree in French from UNC.
After graduating, she taught French at Methodist University and in the Cumberland County School System before receiving certification as an assistant principal. She later moved from K-12 education to higher education and was in charge of continuing education programs at the local military base, helping dozens of soldiers obtain graduate degrees. She also worked with North Carolina State University and Duke Energy Progress to help staff at Harris Nuclear Power Plant obtain their undergraduate degrees. At the end of her career, she worked at Wake Technical Community College administering off-campus continuing education programs.
Ann was known for her love of the arts, including opera During her retirement she spent many happy hours working in her flower-filled yard. Her family admired her impeccable taste in fashion, interior design, and above all they loved her rabid support of UNC football and basketball teams.
Ann leaves behind a sister who lives in Chatham County.
