Alton Miller, Jr Obituary

Mr. Alton Lennon Miller Jr., lovingly known as Big Al, of Sumter, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, he was 87. He was born in Cumberland County on April 2, 1936, to the late Alton Lennon Miller Sr. and Elizabeth Atkinson Miller.

A former paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Al had a deep love for his country and time in the service. During his time in the Army, Al made lifelong friendships with many of those he served with. Al had a deep passion for travel, taking him to places near and far, including his favorite place, the Caribbean. After his time in the service, Al was a successful entrepreneur in real estate development, but always found time for family and recreation. His love for family was his true motivation. He was the life of the party, he had the biggest laugh, and always made sure everyone around him was having a good time.

He was survived by his wife Greta Molina of Sumter, SC, sons, Alton Lennon Miller III and wife Kathy of Fayetteville, Robert Kevin Miller of Fayetteville, Mark Alan Miller and wife Gaiya of Durham; stepson Joshua Molina and wife Casey of Sumter, SC; stepdaughter Megan Timmons and husband John of Sumter, SC; granddaughters, Melissa Ray and husband Nathan, Alison Burell, Kerry Wheeler and husband Luke, Ashley Miller; grandson Brandon Miller and wife Sarah; granddaughters, Ellie Addison Timmons, Savanna Molina, Isabella Molina, Harper Molina; and seven greatgrandchildren Garrett Burell, Hunter Burell, Hailey Wheeler, Molly Wheeler, Carson Wheeler, McKinley Ray and Mitchell Ray.

 He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Gillis of Cumberland County, son Richard Conrad Miller of Fayetteville, and his grandson-in-law William Cory Burell of Wake Forest.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SPCA. The family will receive friends from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
