Air Force Retiree Senior Master Sergeant Paul Gonzalez went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2024.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Loretta; daughter, Sherri Rodriguez and grandson, Steven Clark, both of MD; grandson, Miguel Rodriguez of Los Angeles, CA; great granddaughter, Eden Monroe Clark of Oklahoma; brothers, Melvin (Lotte) of Oklahoma, Roland (Dagmar) of Palm Coast, FL, Noel of PR, Nene (Vivian), and Ronnie (Isabel);sister, Nixida Gonzalez of Jacksonville, FL, and son, Victor Clark of Fayetteville, NC.
SGT Gonzalez was born and raised in The South Bronx, NYC. He graduated from Alfred E. Smith High School in June of 1967 and enlisted in the USAF in November of 1967. He retired in August of 1990, after serving in the CONUS, European, Middle East, Pacific, South, and Central America areas. Afterwards, he continued to work as a federal civilian employee at Fort Liberty, NC; most notably at Simmons Army Airfield, as a Base Operations Lead Air Traffic Assistant, retiring in November of 2014. SGT Gonzalez honorably served 44 years of total federal service. His many decorations included the Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Presidential Unit Citation Award, Humanitarian Service Medal, 1 Device, and the Army Commander’s Civilian Service Medal. He volunteered his off time to officiate baseball games for The Fayetteville/Cumberland County Recreation Teams for 22 years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 9:45 to 10:45 am. A funeral service will be held at 11 am in the chapel with Sister Amy Tricoche officiating. Burial to follow at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
