Tracy Suzanne (Vaughn) Whaley

Tracy Suzanne Vaughn Whaley passed away surrounded by family on December 19, 2017 in Durham, NC at the age of 56. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister, and friend.

Tracy was born on September 9, 1961 in St. Petersburg, FL to her parents, Kenneth and Peggy Vaughn. After obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Pharmacy Technology and working as a pharmacy technician for a few years, she returned to school to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Fayetteville State University. She was a dedicated high school and middle school math teacher for more than 20 years in Cumberland and Harnett Counties, who will be remembered by the hundreds of students she taught. She loved animals, the arts and she enjoyed spending time at the beach and in the mountains with family.

Tracy is survived by her father, Kenneth D. Vaughn of Brevard, NC; her son, Geoffrey Whaley of Boston, MA.; and her daughter, Leigh Whaley of Hawley, MA. She is also survived by her siblings, Kimberly Vaughn of Sanford, NC,  Matthew Vaughn and his wife, Letisha Vaughn, of Fayetteville, NC, Amy Morrow and her husband, Johnny Morrow, of Brevard, NC and Christopher Vaughn and his wife, Laura Vaughn, of Greensboro, NC; her nephews, Nikolas Vaughn and Rece Vaughn of Greensboro, NC; and numerous cousins. She is also survived by her beloved dogs, Buster and Nellie. Her mother, Peggy Vaughn precedes her in death.

A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on December 27, 2017 with a visitation between 11:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.
