Ret. Sgt. Stephen Kent Obituary

Stephen Kent loved the Lord Jesus Christ and he met his Savior face to face on Friday, March 23, 2018.

Steve was a member of the U.S. Army Airborne as well as the N.C. National Guard. He served in areas of imminent danger during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal,  Global War on Terrorism Service Medal , Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Iraq Campaign Medal.

Steve had a degree in Forestry and worked in the timber industry prior to his military service. Growing up around Fort Walton Beach Florida, he enjoyed surfing and fishing. Recently, Steve found a passion for flying his drones, remote control helicopters and other aircraft.

He was a very intelligent kind and compassionate man with a big heart. Steve loved his family and his friends. He is survived by his wife, Lucia Kent; two sons, Ryan and Jacob Kent; a sister, Susan Kent; an aunt, Connie Oden; and best friend, David Nelson and wife, Janet.

Steve fought cancer like the warrior he was for almost 10 years never surrendering, never giving up and always walk steps with the Lord’s word.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 12 pm (noon) Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Tate officiating.

A special thank you to Sharon and the staff at Heritage Place and Community Hospice for the excellent care and compassion given to Steve.
