Retired MSGT Byron Jerome Barnwell, 65, of Fayetteville passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019.

He was a US Air Force MSGT retiring after serving over 25 years. During his career he was honored with numerous awards including; the Air Force Commendation Medal with 3 devices, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with 1 device, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with 2 devices, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 5 devices, National Defense Service Medal with 1 device, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon with 1 device, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 devices, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 7 devices, and the Meritorious Service Award. Byron fought for his country with honor and valor.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Rogers and Breece Chapel with Pastor Carl Brinkley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
