Renus Maultsby

July 17, 1927 ~ November 1, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Alvin Renus Maultsby, 90, passed away at home surrounded by family and loved ones on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Renus was born July 17, 1927 to Vernon and Mamie Maultsby in Fayetteville. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Marciano Maultsby; brothers, Harold Boone Maultsby and Leslie Sessoms;  sisters, Shirley Beasley and Norma “Tut” McGill. 

He is survived by daughter, Cynthia Maultsby Burt of Santa Monica, Cali.; sons,  Alvin Leslie “Butch” Maultsby and wife, Patricia O’Brien Maultsby of Hope Mills  and James “Jim” Edward Maultsby and wife, Cheryl Maultsby of Houston, Texas; his sister, Louise Crumpler; sister-in-law, Martha Maultsby; grandsons, Michael Shane “Butch” Maultsby and wife, Laura Maultsby, Ryan Christopher Maultsby and  Derek Rowe and wife, Kristyn; granddaughter, Devon Rowe; great-grandsons, Saxon and Madix Maultsby, and Carter Rowe.
Renus was a life-long resident of Fayetteville, NC, graduated from Fayetteville High School, and served 3 years in the US Army.  A well-respected building contractor in Cumberland County, he was a mentor to many local carpenters currently in the trade. After retiring from construction, Renus was part owner of the Decorator Shop in Stedman, NC. He expanded his business to include antiques and military surplus, frequenting flea markets, military and antique shows throughout the south. 

A true man of integrity, Renus was honest to a fault, dependable and hard working. An avid reader, he was also a great athlete. He was particularly passionate about softball and bowling, playing in organized leagues for over 30 years. 

Renus was a lifelong collector. He had an extensive army patch collection, was a long-time volunteer in the Fayetteville Museum of Art, and assisted with special events such as the Festival of Flight. 

The family would like to thank the caregivers and hospice workers for the special care provided to our family.

The family will receive friends from 7 pm to 9 pm tonight, Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.  A funeral service with military honors will be held at 3 pm  Sunday, November 5, 2017 in  Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Hayes officiating.  Burial will follow in Cross Creek Cemetery.
