Katie Dell (Matthews) Powers

Katie Dell Matthews Powers, 88, of Fayetteville went to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday, May 19, 2017 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery 395 Vander Rd. Salemburg, NC 28385. The family will receive friends from 10 am to 11 am prior to the service at the funeral home.

Katie Dell was born in Sampson County June 17, 1928 to the late Lattie H. Matthews and Aquilla Williams Matthews.

She is survived by a son, Charles H. Powers of Fayetteville; three daughters, Debbie Powers Dixon and husband, Joey of Savannah, Ga., Sue Powers Parsons and husband, Denny of Leesburg, Fla. and JoAnne Powers Melton and husband, Doug of Pendleton, S.C.; a grandson, Justin Dixon of Savannah, Ga.; two step-grandchildren, Wes Melton and wife, Ashley and Jessica Faulkenberry and husband, Bill; two sisters-in-law, Edna Matthews of Autryville and Dorothy P. Sellers of Fayetteville; six step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Clifford "Buddy" Powers; a sister, Mavis Tyndall; a brother, Billy Matthews; a nephew, Terry Devon Matthews; and a great nephew, Jeff Church.

Katie was a long time member of Carroll Memorial Baptist Church. She loved her Sunday School Class and the people in her church.

She will be greatly missed for her loving care and kindness for others and will be missed greatly by family and friends.
