It is with great sadness that the family of Jack B. Phillips announces his passing on January 11, 2019 following a brief illness.
He was 91, and at the time of his death, he was in the process of moving from Myrtle Beach, S.C. to Greensboro, N.C. He had previously lived in Shaker Heights, Ohio for 66 years.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Amy Ginsburg of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Sahaja “Linda” Coventry of Yangebup, Western Australia; and by his grandchildren, Josh Ginsburg of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Allison Mitteer of Butner, N.C.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rae “Tootsie” Fleishman Phillips.
Jack was the son of Abraham and Esther Phillips and grew up in Washington DC. He attended American University and earned an MBA from New York University with a focus on retailing. He also served in WWII, working from the Pentagon. He and Rae moved to Cleveland in 1951 and went on to open three women’s apparel shops, Rae Phillips Inc. After a very successful 40 years in the retail business, he became a Travel Agent. He and Rae traveled extensively throughout the world during their 65 years marriage.
Jack was known for his charming manners, his kindness, and his patience. He was loved by his many nieces and nephews and took an active interest in all their lives. He was an exceptional father and always willing to listen and provide helpful advice. He will be missed by all who knew him.
His burial will take place in Fayetteville, N.C. where his wife was laid to rest.
The funeral is scheduled for 11 am Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the grave site in the Beth Israel Cemetery.
