Gladys Bell Yates Sandlin passed away on January 10, 2019 in Florence, S.C. Mrs. Sandlin was born on October 4, 1914 in Wilmington, N.C. to the late Norman J. Yates and Janie Bell Yates. She was raised in Dunn, N.C. and was married to the late Leon J. Sandlin.
Mrs. Sandlin was a Registrar with the Fayetteville schools for 25+ years. She was a member of the Hay Street United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a past member of the Pine Needles Garden Club and The Tea and Topic Book Club. In 2016, at the age of 101, she moved to the Presbyterian Community of South Carolina in Florence, S.C. and resided there until her death making many new friends.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Mrs. D. E. Brewer, Mrs. Stancil Bolles and Mrs. Tommy F. Swann.
She is survived by one brother, James Yates of Raleigh; a son, Leon “Jimmy” Sandlin (Norma) of Florence, S.C., two grandchildren, J. “Tate” Sandlin of Greenville, S.C. and Catherine S. Dority (Roland) of Charleston, S.C.;three great-grandchildren, Austin Sandlin, Tatum Sandlin and Simmons Dority, plus nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great great nephews plus other extended family who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be held at Hay Street United Methodist Church in on January 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will be held before the memorial service from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. A private family graveside service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hay Street United Methodist Church, 320 Hay St, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
