Gladys Sherrod Buchanan

Mrs. Gladys Sherrod Buchanan, 83, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away peacefully in the comfort and company of family on Thursday, March 1, 2018. Born January 5, 1935, she was a loving and caring sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to many. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ronald Buchanan, Sr.; by her sisters, Doretha Land and Beulah Hardin; and brothers, Benjamin-Earl Sherrod and Harold Sherrod.

Gladys is survived by seven children, Deborah Buchanan of Fayetteville, Ronald Buchanan, Jr. (Josephine) of Newton Grove, David Buchanan (Gaylene) of Norfolk, Va., Susan Sandhoff (Don), of Durham, Kevin Buchanan of Archer’s Lodge, Karen Buchanan of Fayetteville and Michael Buchanan of Fayetteville. She was also the doting grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. 

Braced by her faith in God from an early age and throughout the course of her life, Gladys personified the concept of giving and sharing without expectation and worked towards instilling these values in everyone she touched. An angel called home, she will be missed by many. 

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Archie Barrington officiating. Following the service, Gladys will be laid to rest at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, rejoining her husband Ronald. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the funeral home.
