George "Tommy" Griffin

Mr. George "Tommy" Griffin, 77, of Fayetteville passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018.

Tommy was the Clerk of Court for Cumberland County for 29 years, and he loved his girls and one young man at the courthouse. He was awarded the Order of the Longleaf Pine. Tommy insisted on wearing the exact same suit each time he was sworn in. 

He loved his family and children, Joe, Jerry and Jessie; and his dogs, Daisy Mae, Sadie Mae and Kimmie Sue. He was an avid Nascar fan of both Bill Elliott and Chase Elliott. He enjoyed rebuilding old cars. Tommy was a snacker, he enjoyed ice cream and "Little Debbie" cakes most of all. He would often be seen at the Pappa's Drive-In enjoying the food and company.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nina Rutherford.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Pamela Johansen Griffin of the home; sons, Joe Griffin and wife, Jeane of Columbia, S.C., Jerry Griffin of Fayetteville and Jessie Hindman and wife, Judy of Fayetteville; a brother, Stanley Griffin and wife, Cecile of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Thomas Arnold-Griffin, Ishzak "Bubba" Arnold-Griffin and Ethan Hindman; a step grandson, H.M. Monsour; and his dear friend, Steve McDaniel.

The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 4 pm Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Floyd Benfield officiating. Burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
