David Cornelious Wood, Jr.

David Cornelious Wood, Jr., 80, of Wilmington passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

Mr. Wood was born in Cumberland County, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Cornelious Wood and Bertha Brown Wood; his first wife, Joanne Matthews Wood; brothers, Edward Wood and Ernest Wood; sisters, Rose Williams, Eunice Austin and Geraldine Hammond.

Also left to cherish his memory is his wife, Barbara Thompson Wood; two sons, Mark Wood and Richard Wood (Beth); one sister, Shirley Durkee; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Hammond; a daughter, Wendy Petty Aboelmatty; sons, Dale Petty (Annah) and Robert Petty (Michelle); grandchildren, Jake Wood, Lauren Wood, Phil Wood, Adam Aboelmatty, Noah Aboelmatty, Bailey Petty, Kendelle Petty and Brodyn Petty; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

David retired as a Sales Representative with StrideRite Shoe Corp. in 1998 after 34 years of service. He loved fishing and playing golf, especially his golf trips with his good friends to Myrtle Beach. We wish to thank all of his doctors and the DaVita Dialysis Center caregivers and the hospital staff at New Hanover Regional Medical for the excellent care they provided.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 26, 2018 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home 500 Ramsey St. Fayetteville, NC with a graveside service to follow at 3 pm in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery Fayetteville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Shiner's Hospital for Children (shrinershosptialforchildren.org) or the Wounded Warriors Project (woundedwarriorsproject.org).
