Rita Joyce Pope

Rita Joyce Pope, 72, of Fayetteville passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017.

She was a jailer for 20 years before retiring from the Cumberland County Sheriff Department.  She also worked for Seventy-First High School and was involved with the local parks and recreation and she was very involved in the local political scene.

Left to carry on her memory is her daughter, Millita Billups-Robinson (Joseph) of Fredericksburg, Va.; two sons, Kerri Coleman of Fayetteville and Jeri Coleman of Woodbridge, Va.; three sisters, Shirley Brown (Donovan) of Nashville, Tenn.,  Patricia Duncan (David) of Nashville and Christine Boyd (Bob) of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Albert Collins of Nashville and William Layton (Sharon) of Nashville; and three grandchildren, Marcus R. Billups, Shavonte' D. WIlliams and Keylie J. Coleman.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Johnson and her mother, Birdie Mae Johnson.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and never met a stranger.
