Richard Gene Nash

August 11, 1935 ~ September 23, 2014 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Retired Army CW4 Richard “Gene” Nash, 79, of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014 in his home surrounded by family.

He served his country for 28 years and was in both the Vietnam and Korean wars, earning, among other awards, the Bronze Star. After retirement, he earned an Associates Degree while working for Civil Service until his second retirement in 1997.

Gene was the strong but humble leader of his family. Everyone that knew him described him as a loving, kind, gentle and wonderful man. He treated everyone with love and respect. His hobbies included fishing, bowling, gardening and working puzzles but golfing with his buddies was his favorite. Above all, he loved being with his wife . They vacationed often, especially to visit their family in Texas. They have been to the mountains, beaches and on several cruises. He simply enjoyed life!

He is survived by this beloved wife, Lila Nash, of 60 years; his daughters, Sherry Hunter of Fayetteville and Patty Galt and husband Keith of Ponder, Texas; his brother, George William Nash of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren, Ehren Kruse, Kevin Kruse and wife Tracy, Teresa Meroney and husband David, Julie Hunter and Jessica Galt; and three great-grandchildren, Alli, Maci and Matthew Meroney.

His funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel. Interment to follow with full military honors in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:15 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
