Retired Major Angel Luis Carrion

August 11, 1928 ~ June 17, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Major Angel Luis Carrion, US Army, Retired, 88, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.  

Angel was born on August 11, 1928, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.  He attended the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras and then entered the US Army as a second lieutenant.  He was in the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict, receiving a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and numerous commendations.  After proudly serving his country for more than 20 years, he retired from the Army and returned to college to complete a BS in Business Administration at Campbell University.  He went on to have a second career as a Realtor in Fayetteville for 35 years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Celina Carrion and his daughter, Marisela Carrion Darnell.  

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Zobeida (Beddy) Carrion; children, Maribel Carrion, Marilia Carrion Gannon and husband Tim, Luis Bernardo Carrion and wife Cathy, Ernesto Jose Lopez and wife Oneida, Marisol Carrion Moody and husband Jim, Mariluz Carrion Bell and husband Gray and Marisa Carrion Desai and husband Raj; 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Angel adored his wife from the moment they met, and as the years went by they became inseparable.  He had a great sense of humor and a zest for life that included music in all its genres.  His last hobby was learning to play the guitar.  He loved his family and always looked forward to the next opportunity to be with them.  Recent family reunions and the weddings of two granddaughters were joyous celebrations.

The greatest legacy he left his family and friends was his unfailing and unconditional love for God, his family and his country.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 am Friday, June 23, 2017 in St. Patrick Catholic Church.  An inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.  The family will receive friends from 10 am to 11 am prior to the service in the St. Patrick Catholic Church Family Room. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Angel Carrion to the St. Patrick New Church Building Fund.
