Ret. Lt. Cmdr. Robert Maurice St. Germain

August 8, 1932 ~ July 10, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Robert M. St.Germain (Ret.), 84, passed away after a long illness surrounded by his loving family on Monday, July 10, 2017.

Born in Manchester, NH on August 8, 1932, he was the son of Omer and Lucienne St. Germain. Robert was a kind, gentle man, and was dedicated to his family, his Catholic faith and his military service.

Robert enlisted in the US Navy after completing high school and served a term of duty for four years. He graduated from St. Anselm College in 1960 and was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy. His tours of duty included service aboard the USS Kretchmer, Naval Underwater Ordinance Station and the USS North Hampton. Robert was the Executive Officer of the DASH training unit Dam Neck, VA. He served as a United Nations Military Observer in the Golan Heights, Israel and was later the Security Officer of the Naval Weapons Testing Center, China Lake, CA. He also served aboard the USS Coral Sea as First Lieutenant. He graduated from the Command General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. His final tour of duty was as Naval Advisor at the JFK Special Warfare Center, Ft. Bragg, NC. During his service in the military, Robert was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Navy Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the United Nations Medal. While in China Lake, CA, he was honored to receive the R.W. Bjorklund Management Innovator Award. Robert retired from his military service in 1979.

With a master’s degree earned during his military tenure, Robert headed the NJROTC program at Westover High School and later at Cape Fear High School. He worked as a Guidance Counselor in the Cumberland County School System for four years and retired in 1990.
Active in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Bob (Robert) was devoted to many of it's ministries, including Catholic Social Ministries, Cursillo, Parish Council, the church choir andmany others.

Witty and kind, Bob was a warm-hearted friend to all, devoted loving husband and caring father to his three children. Bob loved to laugh and make others feel welcome. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and family, as well as spending quality time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lillian; two sons, John St. Germain and wife, Linda of Scappoose, Ore. and Justin St. Germain and wife, Carrie of Fayetteville; a daughter, Ann Cline and husband, Kenneth of St. Charles, Ill.; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, July 14, 2017 from 7 pm to 9 pm at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, July 15, 2017 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. An inurnment will be held at a later date at St.Patrick's Catholic Columbarium.
