Marguerite Caroline (Peterson) Stone

Marguerite Caroline (nee Peterson) Stone, 86, of Malvern, PA, passed away on Thursday July 14, 2016. 

She was born in Washburn, ND, on March 1, 1930, the second of six children of the late Verona (nee Yackel) and Harley Peterson. After graduating from Washburn HS in 1948, Marguerite moved to Portsmouth, VA, finding work as a fashion model. It was there that she met her future husband: Rucie Branson “R.B.” Stone, Jr. They married in 1950 and remained inseparable until his death in 2012. During the years that R.B. served in the military and worked in Chambers of Commerce, the couple lived in several states before settling in North Carolina in 1962. 
After being a stay-at-home mom and serving as a PTA president, Marguerite worked first as a substitute teacher and then as a secretary in the Cumberland County schools, most notably in the guidance office at Douglas Byrd. Her last job was as secretary in her husband’s business, Stone’s Signs. After retirement in 1998, Marguerite read voraciously and solved countless crossword puzzles. 

She was predeceased by a son, Forrest Stone. 

She is survived by a daughter, Stacy Stone (Stephen McMillian); four grandchildren, Keele Howard-Stone, Rye Howard-Stone, Cal Stone McMillan, and Patrick Stone McMillan. Also surviving is a brother, Dennis (Joan) Peterson; a daughter-in-law, Annabelle Howard; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Marguerite’s funeral service on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at 2 pm in Rogers & Breece Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to follow at Lafayette Memorial Park.
