Loving wife, mother, grandmother (Ama) and great-grandmother, Loraine Dunn, age 89, of Fayetteville, passed away peacefully at the Carolina Inn on Friday, May 15, 2015.

She was born in the Gray's Creek community of Cumberland County, July 30, 1925, to Frank and Ada Canady.

As a young mother she worked at Ormond's Cleaners and later in retail at Sears and Thalhimers. She loved fashion and was always a smart dresser, never failing to maintain the tradition of wearing a hat to church. She loved traveling all over the U.S., especially if a new grandbaby was waiting. She enjoyed spending time at Sunset Harbor and Southport. Both she and her husband were members of First Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, raising their sons in God's love, participating in all aspects of church life and watching their three youngest grandchildren grow up in the church. She enjoyed reading everything from the Bible to the National Enquirer! Her loving and generous spirit made her well-liked and respected by all who knew her.

Loraine was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, of 66 years; and siblings, Frank Canady Jr., Vann Canady, Peggy Canady Fregeau, Ruby Canady Lee and Charles Canady Sr.

She is survived by her sons, Herman Wilson Dunn Jr. and wife Randa, Walter Preston Dunn, and Timothy Mark Dunn and wife Susan. Her grandchildren are Tamera Elizabeth Dunn, Jennifer Dunn Chandler, James Preston Dunn, Candy Dunn Padgett, Joseph Shane Dunn, Timothy Clark Dunn, John Patrick Dunn, and Laura Caroline Dunn. She has 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, McNeill Canady and wife Francis, and Smoot Canady and wife Kathy.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2015, in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church at 9:30 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Following the service, burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

The family especially thanks Ann Eller for her loving devotion, the Carolina Inn's dedicated staff, Cape Fear Valley Hospice Care and her longtime physician, Dr. Jorge Franco.
