Howard "Kit" Eugene Carson

Mr. Howard "Kit" Eugene Carson, 86, of Stedman passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017.

Kit was born August 11, 1931 in Tucumcari, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Peggy Carson of Henryetta Oklahoma; four brothers, Robert, Kenneth, Leroy and Louis Carson; and two sisters, Mary Lake and Betty Burris.

Left to cherish his memory is  his wife, Lou Carson of the home; two daughters, Sandra Frye and husband, Bill of Fayetteville and Christina Santospago and husband, Tom of Raleigh; five sons, Richard Carson and wife, Debra of Roseboro, Craig Carson and wife, Helen of Clinton, Okla., Christopher Carlson of Fayetteville, Taw Carson and wife, Nancy of Wilmington and Ron Carson and wife, Shannon of Indiana; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Kit joined the Oklahoma National Guard after graduating from high school.  Later in 1947, he joined the regular Army achieving the rank of Master Sergeant and went on to Officer Candidate School and became an Officer.  He was deployed to Korea in 1953 and to Vietnam in 1964-65 serving two tours.  Kit later went to Washington, DC where he learned to speak the Thai language fluently.  He joined the Rangers and later the Green Berets.  He loved being a soldier and serving our great country.

Kit earned many awards including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, the Air Medal (2 awards), Army of Occupation Medal -Japan, Expert Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Services Medal, National Service Medal (1st OLC), Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Army Commendation medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, Master Parachute Badge, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Silver Star, Vietnam Honor Medal 1st class,  Royal Thai Army Novice Parachute Badge, Royal Thai Army Fourragere  and Royal Thai Border Patrol Police Parachute Wings.  Kit achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and retired in 1977.  He was a Soldier's soldier.

He worked with Baptist Men Disaster Recovery for many years.  Always wanting to help others in time of need.  He loved Village Baptist Church and all who are members and a part of God's kingdom.

To all who knew and loved him, he will surely be missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Friday, January 5, 2017 at Village Baptist Church with Rev. Nick Smith officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service at the church.
