Retired Chief Warrant Officer II George Julius Sebeny, Jr., 84, of Fayetteville passed away on Sat. Jan. 30, 2016.
George retired as a decorated Chief WO II with a title of Chief Tank Command Officer. He served in the Army for 20 years and his honors included the Germany European Occupation Medal 1948-1954, Korean Service Medal 1955, Vietnam Service Medal 1964-1973, the Vietnam Medal of Honor, the Good Contact Medal 3rd Award, and the Bronze Star. In addition to his honorable service in the Army he served for a number of years as a Civil Service contractor.
After retirement, he was a Sheriff Deputy for Cumberland County along with serving as a Volunteer Fire Fighter for Lafayette Village Fire Department.
George had life long passions for fishing, bowling, and he was an avid Nascar fan.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Rina Russell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Zofia Sebeny of the home; sons, Ronald Sebeny and wife, Chuyita of San Diego, Cali,. and Robert J. Sebeny of Fayetteville; daughters, Rosalie Pritts and husband, Richard of Rock Hill, S.C. and Rita George of Fayetteville; brother, Carl Sebeny of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Pat Grimes of Akron and Carole Amador of Morristown, Tenn.; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and his beloved chocolate lab, Jake.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Fri. Feb. 5, 2016 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel with full military honors. Interment will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12 pm (noon) - 12:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
