Elizabeth "Betsy" Strawn Smitherman

Elizabeth Strawn Smitherman (Betsy) of Indianapolis, IN formerly of Fayetteville passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her mother Julia Strawn and father Dannie Strawn. 
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Jim Smitherman; daughters, Rachel and Natalie; and sisters, Linda Bates and Maggie Bates. 
Betsy was born September 18, 1958 in Fayetteville. She graduated from Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville and got her bachelors and masters degrees at UNC-Chapel Hill. She lived much of her life in Indianapolis and was in the process of moving to her dream house in Isle of Palms, SC.
Betsy was an incredibly hard working woman who gave 30 years of service to Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis. She was a strong leader and role model to everyone around her. As a thoughtful and caring mother, she had a passion for life and she put everyone before herself.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Vaughn Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, with Pastor Doug Jordan officiating. 
The family will receive family and friends at the Strawn residence following the service and reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to cancer charities such as American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or to a charity of one's choice.
