Dudley Conley Miller

Dr. Dudley Conley Miller, 81,of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015.

Dr. Miller was born March 21, 1934 in Durham, NC. He attended Missouri Military Academy, University of Missouri, and the University of Missouri Medical School. He did his medical residency with the U.S. Army starting in 1959. Dudley ended his military career in 1969 as a Lt. Colonel at Walter Reed Hospital, at which time he moved to Fayetteville to start his private practice at Highland OBGYN. He retired from medical practice in 1984 at which time he became Chief of Staff at Highsmith Rainey Hospital. Dudley enjoyed serving the community by working with several organizations to include serving on the Cape Fear Valley Hospital Board of Directors, University of Missouri Medical School Board of Directors, Fayetteville Airport Commission, Fayetteville Little Theater Board of Directors, Exchange Club Board, and the Highland Country Club Board of Directors.

Dudley truly enjoyed traveling the world having gone to all seven continents. He and his wife Ceci loved snow skiing during the winter and taking cruises during the summer. While he found pleasure in traveling, he was most content spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

Dudley was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary “Ceci” Gamble Miller.

He is survived by his son, Richard Thomas Craven, and wife Malinda, of Fayetteville; two daughters, Laurence Williford and husband David, Conley Lee and husband Mark, all of Fayetteville; brother, Charles Miller, of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Richard Craven and wife Heather, of Fayetteville, James Craven, of Raleigh, Sarah Williford, of Lakeland, FL., and Mary Katherine Craven, of Winston-Salem; brother in law Paul Gamble, of Fayetteville, who lovingly cared for Dudley the last 4 years of his life.

A  funeral service for Dr. Dudley Miller will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015  at Highland Presbyterian Church. There will be a private gravesite burial for immediate family after the service. The family will receive friends in the Church Session Room from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Care Clinic in Fayetteville or to the Fayetteville Urban Ministry.
