Charles Nelson Donaldson

Charles N. Donaldson, 88, of 1902 Poplar Drive, Fayetteville, NC., passed away Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 6:45 a.m. at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center.

Charles was a Army Veteran of 27 years. He trained during WWII as a glider pilot. He served two tours in both Korea and Vietnam as a combat Medic. After retiring from the Army, he served 17 years with the department of Corrections as a correctional officer.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be missed greatly. He is enjoying his new home in heaven and we look forward to seeing him again in our forever home.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Ida Belle Donaldson of the home; Daughters, Cathy Broadwell, and her husband Michael of Eastover, NC, Brenda Cherry, and her husband William of Harrells, NC; Sons, Charles R. Donaldson, of Greenville, NC, John N. Donaldson and Bryan K. Donaldson, of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Christina, James, Jessica, Meagan, Charles Richard Jr. "CJ", James Steven, Anna Marie, and Lauren; two great-grandsons, Johnny Nevan and Benjamin Elliott.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2014 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel. Interment to follow with full military honors at Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Charles's name to Wounded Warriors Project.
