Betty Ellen (Pate) Matthews

Mrs. Betty Pate Matthews, 85, of Fayetteville passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

Mrs. Matthews was employed with Lakedale Manufacturing for many years and then with Purolator Filters  for 25 years.  She was a member of Atonement Baptist Church in Raeford.  Mrs. Matthews loved her family, cooking and gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bryant and Eva (Carter) Pate; brothers, Joe and Ed Pate; her husbands, Grady Ratley, Sr. and Willie Matthews; and a son, Johnny Ratley.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Barbara Bass and husband, Carlos of Shallotte; three sons, Wayne Ratley and wife, Suzie, Grady Ratley and wife, Teresa and Steve Ratley and wife, Mary all of Fayetteville; a step-son, Glenn Matthews of Dobbins; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at 3 pm Friday, April 13, 2018 in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Archie Barringer officiating.  Burial will follow at Stoney Point Baptist Church Cemetery.
